The PalsNPets Housing Support Model
PalsNPets provides embedded supportive services within interim housing, becoming a trusted part of the housing community through ongoing engagement with participants with pets and housing staff.
Through consistent presence, we identify, address, and help prevent pet-related barriers before they become housing barriers.
By building trusted relationships over time, we coordinate resources more efficiently, identify challenges earlier, and support participants and their pets as they enter, remain in, and transition to permanent housing together.

The Hidden Housing Gap
When most people think about people experiencing homelessness with pets, they assume there are organizations that help.
And there are...
Animal welfare organizations help keep pets safe by rescuing abandoned animals, preventing pets from entering shelters, and helping families stay together when they are at risk of surrendering a pet.
Housing providers help people move from homelessness into stable housing while connecting them with healthcare, employment, benefits, case management, and other supportive services.
Both systems are making an incredible difference...
But people experiencing homelessness with pets often don't fit neatly into either one.
Unlike someone surrendering a pet, they aren't looking to give up their companion.
They simply need help overcoming pet-related barriers so they can enter housing, remain housed, and move toward permanent housing together.
Between animal welfare and housing services is a gap that often goes unseen.

Since 2020, PalsNPets has partnered with interim housing providers across Los Angeles County, supporting participants and their pets while reducing the time staff spend navigating complex pet related resources. Our experience allows housing programs to welcome pets with confidence while helping participants move toward permanent housing.
